2019 Handball World Cup
The Handball World Cup was held in Germany and Denmark January 10-27, 2019. The preliminary rounds of the German national team were held at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin January 10-17, 2019. The crowd in Berlin cheered on the national team throughout the preliminary rounds, sparking a veritable handball euphoria. In addition to the breath-taking atmosphere, Berlin once again proved to be a cosmopolitan and peaceful city home to a wide range of sports, making it Germany capital for sports, too.
"The Finals – Berlin 2019" combine German championships in track cycling, archery, boxing, canoeing, track & field, the modern pentathlon, swimming, gymnastics, the triathlon, and motorbike trials. Ten German Championships in one city and on one weekend, more than 3,000 athletes competing for approx. 180 titles in 140 disciplines within 48 hours: Berlin will be center of the German sports universe on the weekend of August 3-4, 2019.
National sports associations, public television, and the state of Berlin are bundling their vision, expertise, and resources to create an innovative and high-quality event format with The Finals – Berlin 2019. The state of Berlin and national broadcasters ARD and ZDF are working together for the first time to create a multi-disciplinary event brand. Only Berlin, Germany's undisputed capital for sport, has the venues, resources, and competencies to host this multi-sport event with such a tight schedule and has the infrastructure to make it the ideal venue. ARD and ZDF will cover this weekend-long series of German Championships with almost 20 hours of live TV broadcasts, plus live streams where fans can catch every second of every competition online.
